GRADING SYSTEM

Assessment and Evaluation

Exams at our university include midterm exams, semester/final exams, make-up exams, comprehensive exams, single-course exams, and GPA improvement exams. The first midterm exam, semester/final exam, comprehensive exam, single-course exam, and GPA improvement exam are scheduled by the Senate in accordance with the academic calendar. In units where exams are mandatory at the end of internships and practical training, the procedures for conducting internship and practical training exams are determined by the relevant committees. The manner in which exams are conducted and the criteria considered in evaluation are announced at the beginning of each semester by the instructor/coordinator responsible for the course through the Education Information System. Semester-end or year-end exam schedules are prepared by the deans' offices, college/state conservatory/vocational school directorships, and announced to students at least two weeks prior to the exams.

Assessments of grades are as following;

a) The midterm grade is calculated based on the midterm exam(s) related to the course's education and teaching, as well as other activities such as research, review assignments, and projects. The final grade may include other activities such as research, review assignments, and projects, depending on the nature of the course, as determined by the relevant unit's board decision.

b) The raw success grade is obtained by adding 40% of the midterm grade and 60% of the midterm or final exam grade for courses taught through formal education, and 20% of the midterm grade and 80% of the midterm or final exam grade for courses taught through distance education. In calculating the raw grade, the midterm grade and midterm/final exam results are calculated on a scale of 100 points.

c) The final grade is calculated according to the relative evaluation system determined by the University. As a result of this evaluation, one of the letter grades listed below with their corresponding coefficients is assigned as the final grade:

Successful and Unsuccessful Students

Students with a GPA of at least 2.00 at the end of the semester or academic year are considered successful. Successful students who have not received a failing grade in the current semester/year or a failing course in the previous semester, and have not been disciplined, are considered successful if they have completed at least the normal course load by the end of the semester/year and have the following GPA: Those with a GPA between 3.00 and 3.49 are considered honor students, and those with a GPA between 3.50 and 4.00 are considered high honor students.

Course Repetition

Students who receive an FF, FG, UB, or DZ grade in a course must take that course in the first semester/year it is offered. The total number of courses a student can take each semester is 30 ECTS credits. Students may take courses from the semester they are currently enrolled in, provided that they first take all courses they failed and all courses they were unable to take in previous semesters. If these courses are elective or have been removed from the program, another course deemed appropriate by the department may be taken in their place, upon the recommendation of the academic advisor.

If a student's GPA is 2.00 or above, they may take up to 40 ECTS credits from the current semester and lower semesters. However, if a student's GPA is 3.00 or above and they have no absences or failures, they may take courses from the current semester and higher semesters, provided that the total does not exceed 45 ECTS credits.
